About InterGroup

Pioneers then. Innovators now.

InterGroup began in 1978, with one man (our founder Alan Hill) cleaning phone boxes with a water blaster. From those humble beginnings, we’ve grown into one of New Zealand’s largest, most innovative and trusted maintenance service providers – leading the way in infrastructure and industrial maintenance, coatings, and waste treatment, recovery and disposal.

By the 1980s, we were cleaning major industrial plants and automotive factories. By the 1990s, we had introduced Ultra High Pressure Water Blasting and CCTV Pipe Inspection to New Zealand. In the early 2000s, we pioneered hydro-demolition and hydro excavation – cementing our reputation for introducing new ways of working to New Zealand and staying ahead of the curve.

Over 45+ years, we’ve continually evolved – investing in specialist equipment, future-ready leadership and game-changing technology. From ultra-high-pressure ship hull cleaning in our early years to today’s high-tech delivery with innovative equipment such as our Gerotto Lombrico, Elios 3 confined space drone, StoneAge Sentinel and our award-winning Resource Recovery Centre – we’re still pushing boundaries and driving industry efficiencies.

Future-focused, family-founded (and still family-owned) InterGroup now operates nationwide. We have grown to over 500 staff and are led by Byron Hill who started out as a teenage water jetter in his school holidays and worked his way up through the ranks over the last 20+ years to take on the role of CEO in 2024.

Our willingness to innovate, adapt and lead has never changed – and continues to shape our services and drive our growth.
